Angela Strange: Let's start with Santiago, who returned to Colombia after years in the U.S. financial sector. What drew you back?

Santiago Suarez: There was a sense of duty. I'm Colombian and saw the potential to contribute to the local ecosystem. Latin America was overlooked, with tens of millions of people yet to be served by technology. The region's English proficiency and technical talent also made it appealing. It was time to move back and explore opportunities.

Angela Strange: Dalit, Jeeves started with global ambitions and quickly found success in Latin America. What made the region a key market for you?

Dalit Vasman: We're building a global business bank. Banking is still country and currency-specific, but fintech innovation is thriving in Latin America. The region's regulatory push, advanced infrastructure like open banking, and significant capital flow made it an exciting opportunity. Mexico was our first market, and it remains our largest.

Angela Strange: Gabriel, A16Z has been investing in Latin America for years. What drove interest when it was less obvious?

Gabriel Vasquez: The region's potential for tech giants is immense. Companies like Nubank and MercadoLever have shown the possibilities. The talent pool is growing, with experienced executives emerging from successful exits. The opportunity to build super apps and address unmet needs in financial inclusion is vast.

Santiago Suarez: Building in Colombia has advantages, like being an employer of choice and deep local talent. However, balancing local and global leadership is crucial. We pair local talent with seasoned leaders to drive success.

Dalit Vasman: Scaling across countries requires local presence. Anything customer-facing must be local. We've learned to adapt product development to regional nuances, especially as we grow.

Angela Strange: How do you manage communication across languages and cultures?

Santiago Suarez: We're mostly native Colombian, with English proficiency for global collaboration. Local culture understanding is key, as seen in our product development.

Dalit Vasman: We hire locally for customer touchpoints and use English internally. It's challenging but necessary for maintaining culture and efficiency.
