--:-- John Bickley: I'm Daily Wire editor-in-chief John Bickley with Georgia Howe. It's Tuesday, May 30th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
--:-- Georgia Howe: In response to the L.A. Dodgers choosing to honor the drag group Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence at an upcoming Pride event, a pitcher on the Washington Nationals is speaking out.
--:-- John Bickley: Trevor Williams, a Catholic, says he's deeply troubled by the California team's decision to celebrate a group that parodies Catholicism and openly mocks the Christian faith.
--:-- Georgia Howe: In a statement on social media, Williams said, to invite a group that makes a blatant and deeply offensive mockery of my religion and the religion of over 4 million people in L.A. County alone undermines the values of respect and inclusivity that should be upheld by any organization.
--:-- John Bickley: Russia is blaming the Ukrainian government for a kamikaze drone attack on a wealthy Moscow neighborhood this morning.
--:-- Joel Needler: Here with more is Daily Wire senior editor Joel Needler.
--:-- John Bickley: Russian President Vladimir Putin called the incident a terrorist attack. Moscow Mayor Sergei Savoyanin said that the drones caused insignificant damage, but that the incident brought the war home to the streets of Moscow.
--:-- Joel Needler: Russia, for its part, claimed that it shot down five drones and prevented more damage from occurring. Ukraine has not taken responsibility for the attack, and the White House said that it does not support attacks inside Russian territory.
--:-- John Bickley: The incident comes just weeks after U.S. intelligence reported that Ukraine was likely responsible for a drone attack on the Kremlin in April.
--:-- John Bickley: Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy is claiming victory over his debt deal negotiated with the Biden administration, but he still has to corral the votes to get it passed.
--:-- Zach Jewell: Meanwhile, some of his GOP colleagues are raising concerns over the bill. Daily Wire reporter Zach Jewell has more.
--:-- John Bickley: South Carolina Representative Nancy Mace says she will not vote in favor of the debt ceiling deal, contending that Republicans were hoodwinked and that the agreement would normalize high spending.
--:-- Zach Jewell: Among other measures, the deal suspends the debt limit until 2025, caps spending growth for the next two years in areas except for defense and veterans, and expands work requirements for food stamps for those between 49 and 54 years old.
--:-- John Bickley: However, Mace said that this deal quote normalizes record high spending started during the pandemic. And Mace is not alone in her concerns.
--:-- Zach Jewell: Representative Scott Perry, a Freedom Caucus member, this afternoon said, The Speaker himself has said on numerous occasions, the greatest threat to America is our debt. And now is the time to act. We had the time to act. And this deal fails completely.
--:-- John Bickley: Authorities are looking for answers after a brawl between two large groups in Hollywood, Florida on Monday evening led to nine being wounded by gunfire.
--:-- Josh Levy: Authorities don't know what sparked the confrontation, but viral videos show beachgoers fighting as tourists flee the beach.
--:-- John Bickley: Hollywood Mayor Josh Levy condemned the mayhem.
--:-- Josh Levy: People come to enjoy a holiday weekend on the beach with their families and to have people in complete reckless disregard of the safety of the public and to have an altercation with guns in a public setting with thousands of people around them is beyond reckless.
--:-- John Bickley: Roman Catholics and other Christians are flocking to a monastery in Missouri by the thousands to witness a nun's dead body that has been found seemingly incorrupt.
--:-- Moreta Lordi: Here with more is Daily Wire investigative reporter Moreta Lordi.
--:-- John Bickley: Sister Wilhelmina Lancaster died in 2019, yet when her body was exhumed on May 18th by the Benedictines of Mary Queen of Apostles in Gower, Missouri, the sisters were shocked to find that her body had not decayed since her passing.
--:-- Moreta Lordi: Originally her body was going to be moved to a new shrine, but she is now placed in a glass casket for viewing.
--:-- John Bickley: A pair of religious studies professors gave their reaction to the alleged miracle to a local ABC affiliate.
--:-- Moreta Lordi: It's one of the most rare events in the whole of the United States. It's not normal, even with embalmed bodies.
--:-- John Bickley: Now the masses are calling for Sister Wilhelmina to be made into a saint.
--:-- Moreta Lordi: Since the beginning of the Catholic Church, there have been more than 250 incorrupt bodies of Catholic saints.
--:-- John Bickley: In an update to our story this morning, over the weekend, the city of Chicago saw at least 45 people injured in shootings and stabbings, while another 11 were killed.
--:-- Brandon Johnson: Two of the violent incidents happened not far from the home of new Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson.
--:-- John Bickley: Johnson blamed poverty and the lack of government programs in the Windy City.
--:-- Brandon Johnson: Poverty didn't go away over the weekend. We understand that when communities have been disinvested and traumatized, that you're seeing the manifestation of that trial.
--:-- John Bickley: Well, those are your drive home updates this afternoon. To learn more about these stories, go to dailywire.com. And for more in-depth discussion of the biggest stories of the day, listen to our latest full episode of Morning Wire every morning.
