--:-- John Bickley: I'm Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief John Bickley with Georgia Howe. It's Thursday, June 8th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
--:-- Georgia Howe: House Oversight Chairman James Comer says that the FBI has finally agreed to allow every committee member to see a document containing bribery allegations against President Biden and his family. This comes after weeks of the Bureau refusing to even admit that the record exists. It also follows a vote to hold FBI Director Christopher Wray in contempt of Congress.
--:-- Georgia Howe: The unclassified record reportedly shows the conversations between a confidential human source and a foreign national who claimed to have bribed then-Vice President Joe Biden. Not only are they admitting the document existed they allowed me to go in and look at a redacted version and they offering to let committee members go in and look at the document.
--:-- Georgia Howe: But Jamie Raskins and his friends at the Washington Post and at CNN they've gone out and tried to discredit this document. They've tried to discredit the whistleblower.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Smoke from the massive Canadian wildfires has engulfed states across the Northeast of the United States, with many experts sounding the alarm over air quality. Here with more is Daily Wire senior editor Joel Needler.
--:-- [Theme music transitions]
--:-- Joel Needler: The air quality index scale varies from 0 to 300. Anything over 300 is hazardous. New York's air quality has seen values hit 392 in the last 24 hours, leading to public warnings, flight delays, and events like baseball games being canceled.
--:-- Joel Needler: Here's what environmental health expert Peter DiCarlo told NBC. When we're breathing wildfire smoke, that smoke is getting into our lungs and they may feel irritation, a tingling sensation in their throats. Sometimes their eyes will tear.
--:-- Joel Needler: While environmentalists are blaming the fires on climate change, others point to misguided environmental policies which have led to poor forest management. According to meteorologists, the smoke won't clear for a few more days. That's when the wind is forecast to switch directions and bring cleaner air into the U.S. over the weekend.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Eight workers at a Mexican drug cartel scam call center have been confirmed dead after reportedly attempting to quit their jobs. According to both U and Mexican authorities the eight young workers were reported missing last month after relatives said they had not returned home. Human remains were then found last week, discarded in plastic bags in the western state of Jalisco.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Authorities say they've now confirmed that the remains were those of the call center workers.
--:-- Georgia Howe: A 31-year-old Syrian refugee stabbed eight people, including multiple children and a baby, at a playground on Thursday morning in Annecy, France. The attack took place at about 9.45 a.m. local time at a playground near Annecy's city center.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Multiple victims sustained serious injuries, but no deaths have been reported. The suspect is in police custody. Annecy is a picturesque town and a popular tourist destination in the French Alps.
--:-- Georgia Howe: China is reportedly in talks with Cuba to establish a base on the island in order to better spy on the United States. Here with more is Daily Wire senior editor Cabot Phillips.
--:-- [Theme music transitions]
--:-- Cabot Phillips: According to senior U.S. officials, China has been in direct conversations about setting up a spy base in Cuba, which would allow Beijing to collect sensitive data and intelligence on southeastern portions of America, home to many military facilities and major industries.
--:-- Cabot Phillips: In exchange for the new facility, China has reportedly agreed to pay the Cuban government billions of dollars. It not yet known if construction has begun or where the base will be located.
--:-- Georgia Howe: We have much more on this story in tomorrow episode of Morning Wire.
--:-- Georgia Howe: The Supreme Court issued a surprising 5-4 ruling on a congressional redistricting case. The court ruled that Republican-led legislatures in Alabama and Louisiana will have to redraw district maps to increase Black representation.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Both Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh joined with the court's liberals in affirming the lower court ruling, which found a likely violation of the Voting Rights Act in an Alabama congressional map.
--:-- Georgia Howe: The ruling stated that there was only one majority black seat in a state where more than one in four residents are black. The outcome was unexpected due to the court previously allowing the challenged map to be used for the 2022 elections.
--:-- Georgia Howe: And Pat Robertson, a religious broadcaster who turned a tiny Virginia station into a global Christian broadcasting network, has died at the age of 93. Robertson's death Thursday was confirmed in an email by his broadcasting network. No cause was given.
--:-- Georgia Howe: For more than half a century, Roberts was a familiar presence in American living rooms known for his 700 Club television show.
