Jack Teixeira's attorneys asked the judge to allow the defendant to be released to his father's home to await the trial, but the Justice Department wants to keep him detained. The judge said he will issue his decision at a later date.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Convicted fraudster and Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes was set to begin her 11 prison sentence on Thursday but it been delayed due to a last appeal. Her legal team filed the appeal Tuesday which has automatically pushed back the start of her sentence by up to a month.
--:-- John Bickley: Toymaker Mattel has unveiled a new Down Syndrome Barbie doll. In a statement, Mattel said, quote, "Our goal is to enable all children to see themselves in Barbie, while also encouraging children to play with dolls who do not look like themselves." The Barbie franchise has come under fire in the past for portraying women in an unrealistic way.
--:-- Georgia Howe: During a Times 100 masterclass on Tuesday, legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg said he regrets editing out firearms from his classic film E.T. the Extraterrestrial. That was a mistake. I never should have done that because E.T. is a product of its era. No film should be revised based on the lenses we now are either voluntarily or being forced to peer through.
--:-- John Bickley: The director also criticized the modern trend of remaking old films and rewriting books to appease modern audiences. Nobody should ever attempt to take the chocolate out of Willy Wonka. Ever. And they shouldn't take the chocolate or the vanilla or any other flair out of anything that has been written. It is sacrosanct. It's our history. It's our cultural heritage. Warts and all. Yeah, I do not believe in censorship that way.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Super Mario Brothers by Illumination Studios has been blowing past all expectations in the box office. Here with more on what the film is about and why it's so successful is Daily Wire contributor Christian Toto.
--:-- Christian Toto: It's an animated story that really connects a lot of the different narratives around the Super Mario Brothers franchise. And it's a simple story about heroism and rescuing people and all the things you expect. And it's closing in on the billion-dollar mark worldwide. Those are huge numbers. It's the biggest video game movie of all time. And it's the biggest movie of the year. And it may emerge as the top moneymaker after the year ends up.
--:-- John Bickley: And it is interesting because usually Disney reigns over the animation world. And of course, Disney is still a powerhouse. They've got a lot of great titles. But they haven't been nearly as successful as Illumination has been.
--:-- Georgia Howe: The NFL Draft is underway. Here with Morris Craning Company co-host David Cohn.
--:-- David Cohn: The first round of this year's NFL Draft saw Alabama quarterback Bryce Young taken first overall by the Carolina Panthers. Ohio State quarterback C Stroud was taken with pick number two by the Houston Texans. Then the Arizona Cardinals traded with Houston to give the Texans back selections in the top three where they drafted Young Alabama teammate, defensive end Will Anderson Jr. Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson rounded out the top four when he was taken by the Indianapolis Colts.
--:-- Georgia Howe: And at the state dinner held at the White House on Wednesday evening, South Korean President Yoon surprised international guests with a stunning rendition of Don McLean's 1971 hit single Bye Bye Miss American Pie. Something touched me deep inside the day the music died. Yoon was in town to announce the Washington Declaration and discuss how to strengthen the alliance between the U.S. and South Korea. Afterwards, Biden gave his South Korean counterpart an acoustic guitar signed by the American Pie singer himself as a gift on behalf of the U.S.
