--:-- John Bickley: This is Daily Wire editor-in-chief John Bickley with Georgia Howe. It's Tuesday, January 24th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Amidst fallout from the classified documents scandal, President Biden received a statement of support from his friend, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who told media he did not suspect any purposeful wrongdoing by the president.
--:-- John Bickley: Let me just say this. I've known President Biden for a long time. I would be shocked if there's anything sinister here.
--:-- Georgia Howe: And on Tuesday, attorneys for Vice President Mike Pence announced that classified documents have also been found at his home in Indiana. Pence's attorneys said his team notified the National Archives of the documents on January 18th and that he discovered them two days prior. Per protocol, the National Archives notified the FBI, which then searched the home last Thursday.
--:-- John Bickley: Sources told CNN that the documents appear to have been inadvertently packed up from his vice presidential office and transported to his home without Pence's knowledge.
--:-- Georgia Howe: A mass shooting in Half Moon Bay California on Monday left seven people dead and another injured. Authorities say the suspect is a 67-year-old Chinese migrant worker who opened fire on other migrants at two separate locations.
--:-- John Bickley: Law enforcement say they believe the shooting may have been workplace violence. All of the evidence we have points to this being the instance of workplace violence. The Mountain Mushroom Farm, the first location is where the subject was employed.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Republican House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said this week that he intends to investigate donations to the Penn Biden Center, as well as who is purchasing Hunter Biden's artwork as part of the probe into the Biden family's financial ties.
--:-- John Bickley: Comer has already sent requests for documents and other information to the White House, the University of Pennsylvania, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, and others. He states he's planning more requests in the future and says he's willing to subpoena information if he must.
--:-- Georgia Howe: The Justice Department is reportedly preparing to sue Google over the company's dominance in the digital advertising space. The DOJ is expected to file the lawsuit in court by the end of the week, and it will be the latest in a series of antitrust cases made against the company by federal and state government entities.
--:-- John Bickley: The trial for Mark Houck, the Catholic father of seven and pro-life activist arrested by the FBI last year, began on Tuesday. Houck is accused of violating the FACE Act after he allegedly shoved a clinic escort to the ground after the escort allegedly hassled his son.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Houck is facing 11 years behind bars and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines if convicted. An attorney for Houck has called the case clear political prosecution.
--:-- John Bickley: First off, Mark is innocent. Period. End of sentence. That's it. We're getting indications that the DOJ is probing in other places so that this is really their first major foray, their first public attempt to intimidate and frighten the pro-life movement.
--:-- Georgia Howe: The FDA is considering new, simplified COVID vaccine guidelines. The recommendation is that healthy adults and children get a shot once a year. The proposal will be considered by a panel of vaccine experts on Thursday.
--:-- John Bickley: Only 16% of eligible Americans have received a COVID booster. Employers are cutting temporary workers at a hasty pace. More than 100,000 workers were laid off in the past five months, 35,000 in December alone. This marks the highest number since 2021.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Economists say the cuts indicate more layoffs are coming along with a recession.
--:-- John Bickley: Four migrants bused to New York City from Texas were arrested for allegedly stealing more than $12,000 in items from Macy's. The migrants were detained after being tracked down by Nassau County police.
--:-- Georgia Howe: They allegedly drove away from the crime scene in a 2006 BMW with a false license plate.
--:-- John Bickley: Taylor Swift fans protested at the Capitol today, where the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing into Live Nation and the lack of competition in the ticketing industry.
--:-- Georgia Howe: This comes after years of complaints about high fees and murky resale practices. The Swifties are the company's most vocal critics.
--:-- John Bickley: Attorneys general of several states have launched consumer protection investigations, while many lawmakers have called for Ticketmaster to be broken up.
--:-- Georgia Howe: And dozens of Swift fans have sued the company for fraud and antitrust violations.
--:-- John Bickley: And Oscar nominations were announced today in Los Angeles, including a few nods to notable blockbusters. Everything Everywhere All at Once had the most nominations with 11, including a Best Picture nod.
--:-- Georgia Howe: The other nominees in that category, All Quiet on the Western Front, Avatar The Way of Water, Elvis, The Fablemans, Triangle of Sadness, Women Talking, and my personal pick, Top Gun Maverick.
--:-- John Bickley: The award show will be held on March 12th.
