--:-- Corva Coleman: Pelosi has represented the San Francisco area for nearly 40 years.
--:-- Corva Coleman: Less than a day after California voters approved a new congressional map to favor Democrats, Republicans have filed a lawsuit. The suit named Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom as a defendant.
--:-- Carrie Klein: From member station KVPR, Carrie Klein reports.
--:-- Carrie Klein: The federal complaint argues the redrawn district map passed by voters violates the Constitution. Specifically the 14th and 15th Amendments.
--:-- Carrie Klein: Plaintiffs allege district lines were redrawn in favor of Hispanic voters, which they claim is illegal because Hispanics are not a minority in California.
--:-- Carrie Klein: Lead plaintiff is David Tongipaugh, a Republican state assembly member in Fresno County.
--:-- David Tongipaugh: This whole process was a sham. And with this lawsuit, we will make sure that we will expose it and we will hold those accountable.
--:-- Carrie Klein: Plaintiffs are asking a panel of judges to issue an injunction, preventing the new map from going into effect.
--:-- Carrie Klein: The case could make its way to the Supreme Court.
--:-- Carrie Klein: For NPR News, I'm Carrie Klein in Fresno.

--:-- Corva Coleman: The Trump administration will pay half the amount of a typical monthly SNAP benefit during November.
--:-- Lauren Freyer: NPR's Lauren Freyer reports from Tel Aviv.

--:-- Lauren Freyer: The Israeli prime minister's office says he was killed in the attack that day by Hamas-led militants, who then took his body into Gaza.
--:-- Lauren Freyer: Under the terms of this ceasefire, Israel releases the bodies of 15 Palestinians in exchange for each Israeli body that's returned.
--:-- Lauren Freyer: But since this deceased hostage is not Israeli, there will be no reciprocal handover this time.
--:-- Lauren Freyer: Six bodies remain to be transferred from Gaza, five Israelis and one foreigner.

--:-- William Johnson: He objects to the way President Trump ordered it leveled with no outside consultation.
--:-- William Johnson: If you connect the dots, there's a lot of hubris. We forget about what our representatives want. The administration does what they feel, so there's no accountability.
--:-- Corva Coleman: Trump says the ballroom is sorely needed so that the White House will not have to rely on tents to celebrate visits by foreign leaders.
--:-- Corva Coleman: The ballroom is being funded by private donations.
