--:-- John Bickley: I'm Daily Wire editor-in-chief John Bickley with Georgia Howe. It's Thursday, June 1st, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
--:-- Georgia Howe: After Twitter abruptly canceled a deal with The Daily Wire to stream its hit documentary, What is a Woman? due to, quote, misgendering, Twitter owner Elon Musk has responded.
--:-- John Bickley: Here with more is Daily Wire producer and researcher Brandon Bevel.
--:-- Brandon Bevel: To celebrate the one-year anniversary of Matt Walsh's documentary, The Daily Wire arranged a deal with Twitter to stream What is a Woman on the platform tonight.
--:-- Georgia Howe: But after watching the film, Twitter told The Daily Wire they would no longer provide any support and would even limit its reach while labeling it as hateful conduct due to, quote, misgendering.
--:-- Brandon Bevel: A few hours later, however, Musk responded, saying the cancellation was a, quote, mistake by many people at Twitter.
--:-- Georgia Howe: The Twitter executive chairman said that so-called misgendering is allowed on the platform, though specifics of how the film's screening will play out tonight remain to be seen.
--:-- Brandon Bevel: The streaming of the film begins at 8 p.m. Eastern on the Daily Wire Twitter page, and the Daily Wire Twitter space will start 30 minutes before the film begins.
--:-- Georgia Howe: In the wake of the controversy regarding the L.A. Dodgers' decision to honor an anti-Catholic drag group the California legislature LGBTQ caucus announced that it will honor one of the members of the group the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence in a Senate event.
--:-- Megan Basham: The LGBTQ Caucus of the California Legislature says it will honor Michael Williams, who performs in a nun costume as Sister Roma as part of its June 5th recognition of Pride Month.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Williams is also a podcast host who covers pornography and LGBTQ issues. The caucus praised Williams as one of the most outspoken and globally recognized members of the drag group.
--:-- Megan Basham: California Assembly Republican leader James Gallagher condemned his colleague's decision, saying, would Democrats still embrace this group if they mocked Jews or Muslims? Bigotry and discrimination against any religious group are wrong and have no place in the Capitol.
--:-- John Bickley: The U.S. Senate voted today to block President Biden's student debt relief program. The 52 to 46 vote was bipartisan with Democratic Senators Joe Manchin and John Tester, as well as Independent Senator Kristen Sinema joining the Republicans.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Biden has said he would veto the Senate's legislation. The controversial debt forgiveness program is also being challenged at the Supreme Court.
--:-- John Bickley: Last night the Pentagon canceled its third annual drag show at Nellis Air Force Base just as Pride Month was set to begin.
--:-- Trevor Mock: A Pentagon spokeswoman said that hosting these types of events in federally funded facilities is not a suitable use of DOD resources.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Those comments echo what Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told Congress earlier this year.
--:-- Trevor Mock: Both men at the time seemed unaware that drag shows had been hosted at Nellis Air Force Base since 2021.
--:-- [Audio clip of a conversation]
--:-- Lloyd Austin: Listen, drag shows are not something that the Department of Defense supports or funds.
--:-- Mark Milley: I don't read those news stories. I don't know what you're talking about. I'd like to take a look at those because I don't agree with those.
--:-- Lloyd Austin: Well, they're now in the official record.
--:-- Mark Milley: I think those things shouldn't be happening.
--:-- Trevor Mock: Thank you for that admission.
--:-- John Bickley: The Oklahoma Supreme Court has ruled that two state abortion laws, one banning abortion after a heartbeat is detected, and another banning the procedure in most cases, were unconstitutional due to state precedent.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Governor Kevin Stitt, who signed both laws in 2022, condemned the Wednesday court ruling and vowed to protect the lives of the unborn.
--:-- John Bickley: In the wake of illegal immigration laws signed by Republican governors in states such as Florida Texas and elsewhere activists and illegal aliens hosted a national protest day called Day Without Immigrants.
--:-- Georgia Howe: In cities from coast to coast, these protesters called upon illegal aliens to strike from work.
--:-- John Bickley: A Los Angeles jury found That 70s Show actor Danny Masterson guilty of two counts of rape in a retrial on Wednesday after several women he met through the Church of Scientology accused him of sexual assault in the early 2000s.
--:-- Trevor Mock: According to reports, the jury of seven women and five men reached the verdict after seven days total of deliberation.
--:-- Georgia Howe: They couldn't, however, reach a decision on another sexual assault charge involving an ex-girlfriend, Chrissy Carnell Bixler, with eight of 12 jurors favoring a guilty verdict.
--:-- Trevor Mock: The alleged assaults occurred between 2001 and 2003. Masterson now faces 30 years to life in prison as he awaits his sentencing date later this summer.
