--:-- John Bickley: I'm Daily Wire editor-in-chief John Bickley with Georgia Howe. It's Thursday, August 29th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
--:-- Georgia Howe: A new audit from the Justice Department's inspector general reveals ongoing failures by the FBI in protecting children from sexual abuse.
--:-- John Bickley: Daily Wire reporter Amanda Prestigiacomo has more. Three years after criticism over the handling of the Larry Nassar case, the report finds serious deficiencies in nearly 13% of 327 reviewed cases.
--:-- Amanda Prestigiacomo: One involved a child abused for 15 months while the FBI failed to act.
--:-- John Bickley: Senator Dick Durbin called the report a stain on the FBI, accusing the Bureau of ignoring reforms that were put in place to address this very issue.
--:-- Amanda Prestigiacomo: In response to the report, the FBI pledges to uphold child safety as a solemn duty, but cites budget constraints as a challenge.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Calls are growing for Congress to step in and reform the FBI's child protection efforts.
--:-- John Bickley: Israel and Hamas have agreed to limited pauses in fighting to allow for polio vaccines to be given to children in Gaza.
--:-- Georgia Howe: The ceasefires come after a child contracted the viral disease marking the first case in the region in over 25 years.
--:-- John Bickley: According to Israeli officials, the pauses will only be in designated areas.
--:-- Georgia Howe: In an alarming situation, around 20 illegal immigrants allegedly tried to board a Southern California school bus carrying students.
--:-- Amanda Prestigiacomo: The incident happened yesterday near Hamul Delzura Union School District, with migrants reportedly blocking Highway 94 to stop the bus.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Parents were at the scene helping to keep students safe.
--:-- Amanda Prestigiacomo: One parent, Nicole Cardinale, told local news that it was really scary for her eight-year-old son and others.
--:-- Georgia Howe: He said these adults, they weren't kids. They had backpacks on, Mom, and they tried to get on our bus. And there was a lot of them.
--:-- Amanda Prestigiacomo: Other parents say there needs to be a safety plan in place to prevent events like this from happening in the future.
--:-- Georgia Howe: We don't know who these people are. We don't know if they have any criminal history, what their background is.
--:-- John Bickley: District officials say the incident has been reported to the U.S. Border Patrol and local authorities who are investigating.
--:-- Amanda Prestigiacomo: All bus drivers have been advised to skip stops if migrants are present to ensure student safety.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Armed men reportedly from the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua are seen storming a Colorado apartment building in new footage.
--:-- John Bickley: Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce has the latest.
--:-- Tim Pierce: The gang has been linked to over 100 crimes nationwide and is accused of taking over the complex and demanding rent for protection.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Residents report drug deals and visible firearms, with little response from law enforcement.
--:-- Tim Pierce: According to members of the city council, sex trafficking is also linked to the gang's activities.
--:-- John Bickley: Meanwhile, Aurora police call reports of Tren de Aragua's influence isolated.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Here's Aurora Councilwoman Danielle Jerinsky, who's been outspoken on the matter.
--:-- Danielle Jerinsky: The city nonprofits have lined up to help the migrants that have come here, but nobody is helping the American citizens, the residents that are trapped in these apartment complexes.
--:-- John Bickley: A federal court has revived a lawsuit by former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin against The New York Times.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Palin sued the Times over a 2017 editorial linking her campaign to a 2011 shooting.
--:-- John Bickley: The lawsuit was initially dismissed by a U.S. district judge during jury deliberations, but an appeals court now says the dismissal was flawed.
--:-- Georgia Howe: The Times expressed disappointment but remains confident that a retrial will end in its favor.
--:-- John Bickley: Palin's legal team calls the ruling a step toward accountability.
--:-- Georgia Howe: And Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will face their first campaign interview tonight with CNN's Dana Bash.
--:-- John Bickley: Daily Wire senior editor Cabot Phillips has more.
--:-- Cabot Phillips: The joint interview comes after weeks of criticism that Harris has avoided tough questions in the press altogether.
--:-- Georgia Howe: This will be her first sit-down interview since becoming the Democratic nominee. She still has yet to hold a press conference though.
--:-- John Bickley: Meanwhile, former President Trump has been more visible, holding multiple press conferences and sitting for a number of long-form interviews.
--:-- Georgia Howe: The former president will be sitting down for a town hall tonight, which will be moderated by former Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard.
--:-- John Bickley: Harris and Trump are still set to take the debate stage on September 10th on ABC, though there has been some conflict surrounding the rules and whether or not their mics will be muted.
--:-- Georgia Howe: According to the New York Post, ABC has denied the Harris campaign's last-minute request to keep the mics hot throughout the evening.
--:-- John Bickley: That's all for today's Morning Wire. Thanks for listening.
