--:-- Georgia Howe: I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief John Bickley. It's Monday, May 22nd, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
--:-- John Bickley: In a Daily Wire exclusive, the mother of Yulia Hicks, a child who was denied a kidney transplant by Duke Children's Hospital last year, has confirmed that Yulia will finally be receiving the life-saving operation at another North Carolina hospital.
--:-- Georgia Howe: The teen has a genetic kidney disorder that requires a transplant, but her family said last year that Duke was refusing to put Yulia on the kidney wait list because she is unvaccinated against COVID. The family also says that Yulia has already recovered from having the virus.
--:-- John Bickley: Yulia's mother, Chrissy Hicks, spoke to Morning Wire.
--:-- Chrissy Hicks: Our daughter, Yulia Hicks, will finally be receiving her kidney transplant at another North Carolina hospital on Thursday. We are eternally indebted to her generous live donor.
--:-- Georgia Howe: New York City Democratic Mayor Eric Adams has a new proposal for dealing with migrants crossing the border, and it involves the federal government dispersing them across America.
--:-- Trevor Mock: Adams said this week that instead of New York City having to bear the burden of housing, feeding, and supporting the mass influx of migrants, the federal government needs to do more to direct them across the entire United States. We have 108 cities, villages, towns. If everyone takes a small portion of that, and if it's coordinated at the border, to ensure that those who are coming here to this country in a lawful manner is actually moved throughout the entire country, it is not a burden on one city.
--:-- Georgia Howe: New York City has seen an influx of more than 55,000 illegal aliens since the spring of 2022, and 35,000 of those are receiving services from the city.
--:-- John Bickley: Brian Koberger, the man accused of murdering four University of Idaho undergraduate students, appeared in court for his arraignment today.
--:-- [Sound of a courtroom]
--:-- John Bickley: In court, Koberger smiled at his attorney and sat in silence as she said her client would be standing silent. Standing silent means the defendant does not enter a plea of guilty or not guilty, but has the same outcome of pleading not guilty.
--:-- Georgia Howe: The highly anticipated trial is set for October 2nd.
--:-- John Bickley: South Carolina Senator Tim Scott announced his candidacy for president of the United States today at a rally in North Charleston.
--:-- Tim Scott: Scott joins former President Donald J Trump, former United Nations ambassador and fellow South Carolinian Nikki Haley, former Oklahoma Governor Asa Hutchinson, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy as notable names in the race so far.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Joe Biden and the radical left are attacking every single rung of the ladder that helped me climb. And that's why I'm announcing today that I'm running for president of the United States of America.
--:-- Tim Scott: You see, they're attacking our American values, our schools, our economy, and our security. But not on my watch. Not on my watch.
--:-- Georgia Howe: The European Union has fined Meta, Facebook's parent company, with a record $1.3 billion for data privacy violations.
--:-- Kenny Polcari: The Irish Data Protection Commission found that Meta had been illicitly transferring user data from Europe to the U.S. The commission said that they were in breach of the EU's General Data Protection Regulation.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Meta's European headquarters are in Dublin.
--:-- John Bickley: With the clock ticking, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is set to meet with President Biden this evening to continue negotiations over raising the debt ceiling.
--:-- Kenny Polcari: After a weekend of turbulent on-off talks, Democrats and Republicans will try to hash out an agreement on how to pay the nation's bills.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Economist Kenny Polcari says a default is extremely unlikely.
--:-- Kenny Polcari: What I think is irresponsible is the inflammatory language that the Fed uses or that the, not the Fed so much, that the Treasury Secretary uses. It's apocalyptic. It's cataclysmic. It's a disaster. It's unprecedented. All those words do nothing but create anxiety in the markets and anxiety in investors. And that's why I think it's irresponsible because Jenny Gellin, of all people, knows and understands the U.S. is not defaulting on any of its debt.
--:-- Georgia Howe: The L.A. Dodgers are facing backlash from LGBT activists after rescinding their invitation to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence for their Pride Night celebration, saying the troops' presence would not be in alignment with a spirit of unity.
--:-- John Bickley: The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence is a decades-old activist group that parodies Catholic nuns in drag attire, which critics say mocks Catholicism.
--:-- Georgia Howe: As a result of the rescinded invitation, LA Pride has pulled out of the annual Dodgers Pride Night event.
