--:-- John Bickley: I'm Daily Wire editor-in-chief John Bickley with Georgia Howe. It's Tuesday, December 12th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
--:-- Georgia Howe: That's right, John. Let's dive into some of the biggest stories of the day.
--:-- John Bickley: We're starting with a controversy surrounding Harvard President Claudine Gay. The college's board has announced that she will remain in her position, despite calls for her resignation.
--:-- Georgia Howe: That's right, John. Gay faced backlash after testifying before a congressional committee, where she seemed to downplay the threat of anti-Semitism on campus. Critics are saying that her comments crossed a line into bullying and harassment.
--:-- John Bickley: And it's not just her comments that are under fire. There are also allegations that Gay plagiarized some of her scholarly work during her academic career.
--:-- Georgia Howe: The college's board has issued a statement saying that they have confidence in Gay's leadership and that she has apologized for her comments.
--:-- John Bickley: But critics remain adamant that she should step down. And it's not just Harvard that's being affected by this controversy. Alumni and employers who frequently hire from elite schools like Harvard, MIT, and UPenn are saying they will no longer do so.

--:-- Dave Portnoy: It's not just me, I think a lot of leaders have to do it. It was disgusting what those deans and presidents did under oath. Makes no sense to me. If you can't condemn genocide, I don't care whether we're talking Jews, Muslims, any group of people, then you don't deserve to be in a position of power. You got to get out.
--:-- John Bickley: Consumer prices climbed a bit higher in November, but according to the U.S. government, the pace of inflation is continuing to slow.
--:-- Georgia Howe: That's right, John. The Consumer Price Index released this morning by the Bureau of Labor Statistics says that overall consumer prices rose 0.1 percent in November compared to October.
--:-- John Bickley: According to the Bureau, gasoline prices fell sharply and overall energy prices are down 9.8 percent over the last year, but they say greater shelter costs canceled out any relief brought on by better gas and energy prices.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Economists had previously projected little to no change between November and October.
--:-- John Bickley: A Norwegian commercial tanker was hit by a Houthi missile in the Red Sea today off the coast of Yemen.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Both Yemen's Houthi rebels and U.S. military authorities have confirmed the attack. The Iran-backed terrorist organization increased attacks on vessels in major shipping lanes in the area in support of their Palestinian ally Hamas.
--:-- John Bickley: The latest assault expands their campaign beyond ships that have direct ties to Israel. A Houthi military spokesperson said the ship was targeted because they believed it was transporting oil to Israel.
--:-- Georgia Howe: The Norwegian vessel was attacked only after its crew turned a deaf ear to all our warnings. The Yemeni armed forces will not hesitate to attack any vessel that may disobey our earlier statements.
--:-- John Bickley: We reiterate that we will continue to prevent all vessels regardless of their nationalities, headed to the Israeli seaports from navigating in the Arab or Red Sea until the necessary food and medical supplies are delivered to our brothers in the Gaza Strip.
--:-- Georgia Howe: This comes two weeks after a U.S. warship rescued a tanker with ties to Israel from fire in the Gulf of Aden. The attackers were allegedly Houthi rebels.
--:-- John Bickley: Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky met with leadership from the House and Senate today ahead of his meeting with President Joe Biden at the White House.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Zelensky is poised to ask for more aid in his country's war with Russia. After his meeting with Zelensky, Johnson said that while he and House Republicans stand with Ukraine in the war, they will not agree to aid for Ukraine unless the White House satisfies two conditions.
--:-- John Bickley: We needed clarity on what we're doing in Ukraine and how we'll have proper oversight of the spending of precious taxpayer dollars in the American citizens. And we needed a transformative change at the border.
--:-- Georgia Howe: Thus far, we've gotten neither. The Senate has been MIA on this. The House passed H.R. 2 more than six months ago. It's been sitting and collecting dust on Chuck Schumer's desk.
--:-- John Bickley: Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called on Speaker Mike Johnson to keep the chamber in session until border negotiations have been settled.
--:-- Georgia Howe: New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu is poised to endorse Nikki Haley for president at a town hall event later tonight according to several sources close to the governor.
--:-- John Bickley: One member of Sununu's team said the governor has been all in on Haley for some time. The endorsement is seen as a boost to Haley's campaign, which has garnered some momentum lately.
--:-- Georgia Howe: It also puts an end to the idea that Sununu would back Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
--:-- John Bickley: 10 Washington, D.C. teens were charged on Monday in association with at least 15 carjackings.
--:-- Georgia Howe: The teens are suspected of being involved in two separate organized carjacking rings. They allegedly discussed the carjackings in a group chat in which one defendant compared the crimes to grand theft auto in real life.
--:-- John Bickley: The victims include a rideshare driver who was shot multiple times, a dentist, a mother with children in the car, and an elderly couple, among others.
--:-- Georgia Howe: According to authorities, DC has seen 932 carjackings so far this year, resulting in 167 arrests. 62% of those arrests were juveniles.
--:-- John Bickley: U.S. Attorney for the District Matthew Graves is petitioning for these teens to be charged as adults.
--:-- Georgia Howe: These are not the impetuous crimes of a child who temporarily lost control. They are the calculated crime of someone willing to hold a gun to someone's head for money or property.
