--:-- [Upbeat music fades out]
--:-- Host John Bickley: I'm Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief John Bickley with Georgia Howe. It's Thursday, November 16th, and this is your Morning Wire afternoon update.
--:-- Host Georgia Howe: David DePapp, the man who attacked Paul Pelosi with a hammer at the Pelosi's San Francisco home, has been found guilty by a federal jury.
--:-- Host John Bickley: DePapp was convicted on charges of attempted kidnapping of a federal official and assault on the immediate family member of a federal official. The 43-year-old could get life in prison.
--:-- Host Georgia Howe: Israel hopes that Wednesday's military action in Gaza will pressure Hamas into finishing a hostage swap deal.
--:-- [Sound effects: News theme music plays briefly]
--:-- Host John Bickley: Daily Wire reporter Tim Pierce has more.
--:-- Tim Pierce: According to Israeli officials, the terms of the deal would require Hamas to release 50 women and children who were abducted during the October 7th terrorist attack. In exchange, roughly the same number of Palestinian women and children held in Israel would be released.
--:-- Tim Pierce: The deal, which is being coordinated by Qatar, Egypt, and the U.S., would also require a humanitarian pause. Israel would need to cease all hostilities for several days.
--:-- Tim Pierce: While Hamas confirmed the deal in a broad sense, they blamed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for delaying it.
--:-- Benjamin Netanyahu: This deal is a result of military pressure and that I can't give too many details on it just yet. I can say that we weren't close at all until we started the ground operation. In fact, we heard that there was an impending deal of this kind or of that kind, and then we learned that it was all hokum. It was nothing.
--:-- Benjamin Netanyahu: But the middle we started the ground operation, things began to change. So is there a potential deal, Mr. Prime Minister? Is there a potential deal?
--:-- Benjamin Netanyahu: There could be, but I think the less I say about it, the more I'll increase the chances that it materializes.
--:-- Host John Bickley: Police in our nation's capital say a pro-Palestinian protest at the Democratic National Committee headquarters grew violent last night as demonstrators called for an immediate ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war.
--:-- Host Georgia Howe: Capitol Police say around 150 individuals were violently protesting near the DNC building and officers made at least one arrest.
--:-- Host John Bickley: Police say that six officers were injured during the confrontation from being punched, cut, and sprayed with pepper spray.
--:-- Host Georgia Howe: Social media videos show protesters shoving policemen and trying to move metal barricades at the DNC headquarters.
--:-- Host John Bickley: Here's what some of that sounded like.
--:-- [Sound effects: Protesters shouting]
--:-- Host Georgia Howe: Protesters insist that the demonstration was mostly peaceful.
--:-- Host John Bickley: The Senate easily passed a continuing resolution Wednesday night, sending the bill to the president's desk in hopes of ending the threat of a partial government shutdown.
--:-- Host Georgia Howe: On this vote, the yeas are 87, the nays are 11. The 60 threshold having been achieved, the bill is passed.
--:-- Host John Bickley: The vote was 87, with 10 Republicans and one Democrat voting against the stopgap bill.
--:-- Host Georgia Howe: The bill cleared the House on Tuesday after a 336-95 vote. President Biden is expected to sign it.
--:-- Majority Leader Chuck Schumer: Because of bipartisan cooperation, we are keeping the government open without any poison pills or harmful cuts to vital programs. A great outcome for the American people.
--:-- Host John Bickley: Republican Representative George Santos of New York says he will not seek re-election.
--:-- Host Georgia Howe: His announcement comes after the House Ethics Committee uncovered overwhelming evidence that Santos broke the law.
--:-- Joel Needler: Shortly after the panel released the report, Santos called the report a politicized smear while also confirming he would not seek a second term.
--:-- Joel Needler: He did, however, indicate that he was likely to stay in office through the end of his term.
--:-- Host John Bickley: Meanwhile, a renewed effort to expel the controversial congressman from the House has gained momentum.
--:-- Host Georgia Howe: The House may vote on the expulsion of Santos after the Thanksgiving holiday.
--:-- Joel Needler: The report shows evidence that Santos knowingly caused his campaign committee to file false or incomplete reports with the Federal Election Commission and used campaign funds for personal purposes.
--:-- Joel Needler: The panel also stated that Santos was uncooperative with the investigation.
--:-- Host John Bickley: A California man has been arrested in connection with the death of a Jewish protester amid a conflict at dueling rallies for Israel and Palestinians.
--:-- Host Georgia Howe: According to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, 50-year-old Loi Anahi was booked this morning on the charge of involuntary manslaughter.
--:-- Host John Bickley: The incident happened on November 5th during a pro-Israel gathering in Thousand Oaks.
--:-- Host Georgia Howe: Officials say 69-year-old Paul Kessler suffered a fatal head injury during an altercation with a suspect.
--:-- Host John Bickley: Authorities initially said they had not ruled out the possibility of a hate crime, but this morning sheriffs declined to say whether or not such a charge may still come.
--:-- Host Georgia Howe: And police are still seeking two more suspects after 17-year-old Jonathan Lewis was beaten to death by a group of high school classmates in Las Vegas this month.
--:-- Host John Bickley: The fight, which occurred after school in an alleyway, was reportedly over a vape pen and a pair of headphones, which were allegedly stolen from the victim's friend.
--:-- Host Georgia Howe: Eight of the students were arrested on Tuesday.
--:-- Host John Bickley: The investigating lieutenant described the footage of the brawl as very void of humanity.
--:-- Host Georgia Howe: All right, those are your drive-home updates this afternoon.
